Spotify Technology is launching its music streaming services in 13 new markets in the Middle East and North America, bringing the total to 78 countries, The Economic Times reported.
The Stockholm-based company made the announcement in March during its Initial Public Offering (IPO) launch and opened an office in Mumbai with 300 employees, the report said, adding that the music streaming service provider has a total of 83 million paid subscribers.
Spotify offers a freemium service wherein basic features are free with advertisements and limitations. However, its additional features such as the improved streaming quality and music downloads are offered to paid subscribers.
The company allows a subscriber to browse and listen to over 40 million songs and also helps in creating, editing and sharing playlists and tracks on social media, the report added.
The Indian music market is already dominated by key players like Gaana, Saavn, Hungama, Airtel Wynk, Apple iTunes, among others.
