One in three Indian professionals think they are 'career sleepwalking' -- they feel stagnant as they are on a treadmill going nowhere and 57 percent are keen to consider switching careers to get their dream job, a LinkedIn study found.
However, according to the survey, 51 percent of professionals are held back due to fear of adverse impact on pay packets and designation. LinkedIn had surveyed 5,026 professionals across 11 cities.
The survey found that 73 percent of today's young professionals value their work only if they love it as a career choice, while 70 percent value their work if it has a healthy work-life balance.
According to the survey, 57 percent value their job on the basis of money and 56 percent of respondents say that a job that provides learning and growth opportunities is also important.
Younger professionals are more open to change as 61 percent millennials said they will consider changing jobs if it does not adhere to the career choice, the survey found.
"Today’s professional seems future-ready for the changing professional landscape with 80 percent of respondents believing that their current skill set allows them to pivot easily without compromising on their pay packet and designation," the report said.
“The Career Pathways India survey has surfaced some interesting insights -- the highlight being that today’s professionals want a lot more fulfillment from their jobs and careers, and wish to be empowered to change roles and sectors,” said Mahesh Narayanan, country head - India, LinkedIn.
While 62 percent professionals had chosen their careers because it is something they have always wanted to do, 53 percent chose their careers as it fulfills them, and only 38 percent say they chose it because it makes them a lot of money.
The survey showed that today's generation is more inclined towards a fulfilling job, that is, — a job that helps them learn and grow as a professional or a job that they love and excel in the field of their interest.
