On account of International Women’s Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 8 announced that the central government has decided to reduce prices of LPG cylinders by ₹100.
“Today, on Women's Day, our Government has decided to reduce LPG cylinder prices by ₹100. This will significantly ease the financial burden on millions of households across the country, especially benefiting our Nari Shakti,” PM Modi posted on microblogging platform X.
He said that by making cooking gas more affordable, the government also aims to support the well-being of families and ensure a healthier environment. “This is in line with our commitment to empowering women and ensuring ‘Ease of Living’ for them,” he tweeted.
Following the price cut, general consumers in Delhi will be able to purchase a cylinder at ₹803 while Ujwala beneficiaries will get it at ₹503.
This price cut will be borne by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), alleviating any fiscal impact on the government, sources told CNBC-TV18.
This decision follows a previous move in August 2023, where the LPG cylinder prices were slashed by ₹200 for all consumers.
