How corporates, ecommerce companies are raising funds for flood-hit Kerala

Several corporates as well as business groups came forward to help the flood ravaged state by either donating money to the relief funds or by helping displaced people in the camps with the supply of food and other necessary amenities.

Kerala is facing its worst flood in 100 years with 80 dams opened and all rivers in spate. A body blow has been dealt to the state known for its scenic natural beauty, with its infrastructure, standing crops and tourism facilities getting severely hit.

As per official records, 7,24,649 lakh people were housed in 5,645 relief camps across the state. The deadly monsoon rains have so far claimed 210 lives since August 8.
Several corporates as well as business groups came forward to help the flood ravaged state by either donating money to the relief funds or by helping displaced people in the camps with the supply of food and other necessary amenities.
Auto companies:
Hyundai India and TVS Motor Company donated Rs 1 crore each to Kerala Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF).
The social arm of TVS, Srinivasan Services Trust’s (SST) chief executive officer, Swaran Singh said, "TVS Motor believes in supporting the communities around us especially in difficult times. Our contribution is a step towards this. Our prayers are with the people of Kerala and we sincerely hope that the situation will improve."
Apart from TVS and Hyundai India, Mercedes Benz-India also helped with Rs 30 lakh donation towards the relief fund.
Media organisations:
Media organisations like Star India helped with a donation of Rs 2 crore to the relief fund along with supplies of essential amenities in collaboration with a non-profit organisation (NGO), Goonj.
Sun TV Network made a donation of Rs 1 crore, whereas Kerala-based, Asianet said that its employees have pledged Rs 25 lakh towards the relief fund.
Ecommerce companies:
Corporate India as well as ecommerce websites also came forward with their own initiatives to contribute for the flood victims via their mobile apps and websites.
Amazon India, Flipkart, Big Basket and Paytm, in association with various NGOs and Kerala government, have created special packages on their platform, to help with the relief work.
Amazon and Flipkart have used their logistical resources to help provide relief kits , which includes essential food items, first aid and drinking water among other things.
Meanwhile, egrocery website, Big Basket, said that company's warehouses in southern India are stocked up with mineral water, rice, pulses and first aid kits, which will be sent through delivery services or by the help of NGOs. Big Basket also mentioned that it would be adding an extra 20 percent for every donation made through its network.
Paytm:
Online payment company, Paytm, has started a donation drive through its app, where people can directly donate to the Chief Minister’s Fund. The company added that it will also contribute an equivalent amount to the fund for every contribution made by an individual.
Zomato:
Online food delivering service, Zomato, has opened its door for the Kerala flood victims. An individual can contribute by ordering a meal for 6 to 10 people in Kochi, Kerala, through its app.
