The Indian Premier League is likely to make Rs 2,000 crore ad revenue this year, Uday Shankar, chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of Star India Pvt. Ltd told Mint.
"Although I don’t usually talk numbers, we will exit IPL with an ad revenue of Rs 2,000 crore this year", Shankar was quoted by Mint on Tuesday.
The estimated revenue is much higher than the last year's Rs 1,200 crore.
Star India, last week overpaid to retain BCCI media rights for all cricket matches held in India. The company won over Sony Pictures Networks and Jio (Reliance Industries Ltd) to grab the top position by paying Rs 6, 138.1 crore.
Whereas, the company fetched the television broadcasting and digital media rights for IPL last year after paying Rs 16,347.5 crore.
“The target is to reach 70 crore Indians with IPL this year. Last year, 41 crore people watched IPL on television,” Shankar told Mint.
