The Department of Commerce is in the process of instituting the necessary IT framework to allow exporters to avail of benefits from the scheme. The government is in the process of integrating data from the Postal Department for e-commerce.
The RoDTEP scheme allows exporters to claim refunds of taxes, duties, and levies that are incurred in the process of manufacture and distribution of goods and aren't reimbursed via any other mechanism at the central, state, or district level.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal indicated that the move will help MSMEs benefit from the government's schemes and boost overall exports to help achieve the aim of merchandise exports worth $1 trillion by 2030.
While talks are underway with Walmart and eBay for capacity-building programs, an MoU has been signed between DGFT and Shiprocket for capacity-building and handholding sessions as part of the e-commerce outreach under the districts as export hubs initiative, which aims to promote new exporters and MSMEs.
The minister said e-commerce can become a natural bridge for Indian products to tap into the world's consumer spending.
