High wholesale food inflation positive for farmer income: CRISIL’s DK Joshi

Wholesale Price Index-based (WPI) inflation for September has come in at 1.32 percent versus 0.16 percent in August.

Wholesale Price Index-based (WPI) inflation for September has come in at 1.32 percent versus 0.16 percent in August. Manufactured products inflation stood at 1.61 percent compared to 1.27 percent in August and food inflation rose nearly 3 percentage points to 6.92 percent.

Speaking to CNBC-TV18, DK Joshi, Chief Economist at CRISIL said that the increase in wholesale food prices was a positive for farmer income. “What this shows is that the mandi prices or the farm gate prices have risen faster which is good from the agriculture income perspective,” he said.
