US India Business Council (USIBC) president Nisha Biswal on Wednesday said Generalised Scheme of Preferences (GSP) has been important not only for Indian exporters, but for American companies that have been manufacturing in India and used India as a base for exports into the region.
From the perspective of the USIBC, the US Chamber was supportive of India’s desire to restore GSP, Biswal told CNBC-TV18.
On defence deal versus trade deal
Biswal said: “All progress is important, is positive, and is desired and so certainly moving forward on the US India security partnership and defence collaboration is very important to the strategic relationship."
"We want to see India not only in terms of defence acquisitions for its own military modernization, but also as India becomes more consequential in the defence supply chain, more and more companies will want to manufacture significant systems in India and that will allow India to also become a manufacturing hub in the global defence supply chain.”
