Dharavi Redevelopment Project gets only one bidder, govt to extend bidding deadline: report

With only one developer coming forward to rebuild Asia's largest slum, the state government has extended the bidding deadline for Rs 22,000-crore Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP) to January 8 from earlier December 28, Mumbai Mirror reported citing a senior DRP official.

The Maharashtra government, in 2016, made an attempt to float tenders with the plan to divide the 200 acre slum into 12-sub clusters and develop it in a phased manner. The plan was, however, scrapped and the cabinet took the decision to redevelop it as a whole, the report added.

According to the new plan, over 70,000 flats will be constructed in an 80-acre area to accommodate about 55,000 families, the report said, adding that a special purpose vehicle was set up with private parties as lead partners and DRP as minority partner with 20 percent stake.
