Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath on Monday said centre's Rs 6,000 per year scheme will not change anything for small farmers as it translates to Rs 17 per day.

Speaking at the Rising India Summit 2019, Nath said, "We have more farmers suicides than Africa, yet we say we have done a lot. This is absurd. You won't understand this sitting in ivory towers. In the next 10 days, 25 lakh farmers will be able to stand up and say our loan has been waived... this is not the end of the problem."
"It is agriculture which generates so much of economic activity in this country...disposable income as opposed to income per capita," Nath said, "The challenge is how to create that disposable income."
Referring to the recent terror attack in which 40 CRPF soldiers were killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district, he said the government should do what is best for the country, "Government has the machinery. We shouldn't even advise the government what to do. It's for the government to decide what action should be taken."
