Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) is aiming to add about 1.3 crore new income tax filers this financial year, reported The Times of India.
The target was disclosed after a confidential action plan by the CBDT was released on Wednesday, the report said.
A target of 6.7 lakh new filers has been set for Mumbai and about 7 lakh for Delhi. The focus appears to be to tap the tier-2 and -3 cities with Pune, for instance, getting a stiff target of more than 11 lakh, according to the report.
However, as per the report, the administrative body is leaving megacities and focusing more on tier-2 and tier-3 cities such as Pune.
