Besides delivering on high growth in terms of Gross Domestic Product, the government is equally focused on a more comprehensive GDP -- Governance, Development, and Performance, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in her Budget 2024 speech on February 1.
"Our government has provided transparent, accountable, people-centric and prompt trust-based administration with ‘citizen-first’ and ‘minimum government, maximum governance’ approach," Sitharaman said while presenting the pre-election Budget.
GDP (also called national income) is conventionally defined as gross domestic product. It is the sum total of all output in India. • India’s real GDP clocked a growth of 7.7% between April and Sept 2023), which is highest amongst the major economies.
Sitharaman was presenting her sixth Budget speech ahead of the upcoming general election where the Narendra Modi administration is set to seek a third straight term..
The impact of all-round development is discernible in all sectors, Sitharaman noted.
"There is macro-economic stability, including in the external sector. Investments are robust. The economy is doing well. People are living better and earning better, with even greater aspirations for the future. Average real income of the people has increased by 50%," she highlighted.
