Budget 2019: Expect parliamentarians to utilise the session for detailed discussions, says PM Modi

Ahead of the interim Budget 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing media on Thursday, said he expects all parliamentarians to utilise the session for detailed discussions over issues.

He hoped that the Budget session will be "productive".
The interim Budget session will begin on Thursday amid anticipations over the possible announcement of a farm relief package by the Modi government ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Modi said that people would be looking at discussions closely ahead of elections.
Amid the BJP-led government and the Congress-led opposition gearing up to lock horns on several issues in the parliament, TOI on Thursday reported that The Comptroller and Auditor General's (CAG) report on Rafale deal has been finalised and is likely to be tabled in the House.
This is the last Budget of the Modi-led government before the nation goes to polls in April 2019. While the party is promising big push to the poor, farmers among others with latest being the announcement on 10 percent reservation for the economically backward section in the general category.
According to CNBC-TV18 sources, the government is likely to allocate higher funds for National Social Assistance Program (NSAP), a pension scheme that was introduced to provide financial assistance to the elderly, widows and persons with disabilities.
Apart from NSAP, rural schemes like MGNREGS (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme) PMGAY (Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awaas Yojana) and PMGSAY (Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana) are also likely to see usual increase in fund allocation, added the sources.
"My government's aim from beginning was transparency ... my government is committed to serve poorest of poor," said President Kovind on Thursday.
Congress, on the other hand, is also leaving no stone unturned in attempting to come power this time. On January 28, in a surprising move, party president Rahul Gandhi said that his party will bring Minimum Income Guarantee for all poor if it is voted to power.
