Highly placed sources have told CNBC-TV18 that BJP has been working since the middle of December to lay down priorities for the government. The party’s economic cell has engaged with over 200 to 250 stake-holding organisations across India.
“The top priority sectors on which the budget is likely to keep focus this time would be agriculture and rural growth. GST, insolvency and bankruptcy code and company law issues are urgent areas of concern for MSME and financial services, including addressing the credit availability for NBFCs and financial services sector,” said a BJP party source.
The other focus areas will be to look at developments in areas of food processing, real estate challenges, pharmaceuticals, automobiles, telecom & IT, heavy industries and various other micro and macroeconomic issues, especially the soaring commodity prices and inflation.
The BJP’s economic affairs cell is understood to have drafted a detailed sector-wise document with specific suggestions and immediate measures required to boost the sluggish economic growth.
“Suggestions have been shared with the government, including the finance ministry, to be considered for urgent inclusion in the upcoming Budget,” said the source.
Some of these suggestions have also been discussed at the recent meeting of PM Modi and top cabinet ministers with economists at the Niti Aayog.
“Agricultural challenges, issues bothering the small and medium enterprises, education and medicines were key areas of discussion with economists at the PMs meet. Representatives and ministries were told by PM to come back on these areas on an urgent basis,” sources added.
