India's relationship with the US has changed substantially and both countries have shared interests in trade and investment, says External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

The minister was discussing India-US trade deal with World Economic Forum President Borge Brende.
“If you look at our relationship with the US, how much it has changed. The extent of convergences that we have with the US, shared interest in many areas, the size of the economic relationship, trade, investment, the knowledge relationship, and so many students -- so if you put it all together I would say in many ways it is a pretty unique relationship and that was reflected partly in what was visible at Houston,” he pointed out.
“I understand as an interested spectator that trade deal is not that easy. I guess if they are taking a little time, they would be justified in doing so. I do know that a lot of work has gone into it, teams have been meeting and clearly Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has to lead on our side. Our commerce minister is a very strategic person and is completely capable of managing this trade deal,” Jaishankar noted.
Speaking about the Kashmir issue, Jaishankar said, “I would certainly hope one day that even the 'minus one' comes around. I know that we have big challenges, that they (Pakistan) have a mind-set issue out there that they had to overcome, but what I spoke fairly extensively when I was in the US and in many cases when I made points to people giving them the background, the history, what happened, why we did and a lot of it was new to them. Hardly anybody actually had a realisation that this was a temporary article or temporary constitution.”
