SJVN shares at 20% lower circuit after quarterly profit nearly halves

SJVN shares at 20% lower circuit after quarterly profit nearly halves
Shares of state-owned SJVN tumbled 20% on Monday, February 12, reacting to the company's December quarter earnings.

On Friday, February 9, the company reported a 51.6% year-on-year (YoY) drop in net profit at ₹139 crore for the third quarter that ended December 31, 2023.


In the corresponding quarter last year, SJVN posted a net profit of ₹287 crore, the company said in a regulatory filing. The company's revenue from operations declined 1.6% to ₹543.3 crore against ₹552 crore in the corresponding period of the preceding fiscal.

At the operating level, EBITDA declined 3.2% to ₹368.5 crore in the third quarter of this fiscal over ₹380.6 crore YoY.

The EBITDA margin stood at 67.8% in the reporting quarter against 69% in the corresponding period in the previous fiscal. EBITDA is earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation.

SJVN said the board of directors has approved an interim dividend of ₹1.15 per equity share for the financial year 2023-24, the company said in a regulatory filing at exchanges.

"...we would like to inform that the Board of Directors in the aforesaid meeting have also approved an interim dividend of ₹1.15/- per equity share for the Financial Year 2023-24. The record date for the same is fixed on 21.02.2024. The payment of dividend shall start from 04.03.2024 onwards," the company added.

The results came after the close of the market hours on Friday, February 9.

The stock has gained over 9% in the past month, 95.4% in the last six months and 249.77% in the past year.
