CNBC-TV18 spoke to the management of Westlife Development to get a sense of recovery in the business going forward and the kind of performance they were witnessing in 2021 so far.
Amit Jatia, Vice Chairman of Westlife Development, said, "Month-on-month (MoM) right from June and July we have seen a lot of traction and progress and especially as what I believe is the new normal setting into the consumers’ minds we are continuously seeing business move up on MoM.”
"While January was better than December, February is better than January, we are hoping that the trend continues in this manner. There are a bunch of restaurants that are way above pre-COVID numbers as well. By and large, all the restaurants and most of them are in fact even trading above pre-COVID."
On sales growth, Jatia said, "Some stores have not opened, net-net our sales over last year same period were 25 percent lower than last year. We are hoping that this quarter we should finally move towards positive same-store-sales growth that is directionally what we are hoping."
He added, "Delivery was the core business for six months because dine-in was not even permitted but as dine-in has come to almost between 80-90 percent currently. Delivery business has not dropped at all and takeaway business has more than doubled and drive through a business has also doubled."
