India is one of the toughest markets for growth as customers demand for more services with very low spending, said Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi on Thursday.
"India is one of the toughest markets out there; they are so demanding and do not pay for anything. If we can succeed here, we can succeed anywhere else," a Moneycontrol report quoted him as saying.
The Uber CEO was speaking during a fireside chat with Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani in Bengaluru.
Khosrowshahi added that Uber plans to expand its low-cost service segments, particularly two-wheeler and three-wheeler services, in India despite the challenges.
Uber India posted a consolidated revenue of ₹2,666 crore in FY23 on the back of a surge in revenue from rides and supported services in India, the MC report said.
Uber's revenue from rides increased by 74% to ₹678 crore in FY23 compared to ₹388 crore in the previous fiscal, the MC report said. The firm's revenue from support services was recorded at ₹1,977 crore, up 52% year-on-year (YoY), it added.
