Tata Power, a prominent energy company, is set to expand its renewable portfolio in Tamil Nadu by adding 1,000 megawatts (MW) of solar and wind power projects. This move comes as an augmentation to their existing 500 MW solar and wind facility in the state.
During the Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet, Praveer Sinha, MD & CEO of Tata Power, revealed plans for a major solar cell and module manufacturing plant in Tirunelveli, southern Tamil Nadu. The facility, currently under advanced construction, boasts an impressive capacity of 4.3 gigawatts, exceeding its initial four gigawatt plan due to ongoing expansion. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the project encompasses this increased capacity.
Sinha highlighted Tamil Nadu's favourable conditions for wind projects due to specific areas with strong wind speeds. The company is also eyeing solar opportunities to provide hybrid solutions to consumers.
