Over 3 lakh COVID vaccine doses available currently, enough to start Phase 3: BMC

CNBC-TV18’s Archana Shukla spoke Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Additional Commissioner Suresh Kakani regarding the corporation’s preparations for the second phase of COVID vaccinations.
“As of now the entire stock had been supplied by the Government of India. And through us, it will be supplied to private hospitals as well,” he said.
In terms of supply available with BMC, he said, “We have more than 3 lakh vials available as on date with us. Supply is not an issue. We are also expecting one more lot by tomorrow or early next week, more quantity would be supplied to us. We have placed a demand for 8 lakh vaccine doses.”
“In a single shift, we could vaccinate more than 20,000 personnel. If there is a second shift then this figure can be doubled or multiplied by 1.5 times. More than 50,000 people we can vaccinate every day in a single shift, if we work more definitely the number will go up. we are expecting this type of support from private sector as well,” he said.
On COVID-19 cases rising in Mumbai, he mentioned, “Restriction is a last resort. We are focusing more on the upgradate of the existing facilities so that we can accommodate more number of patients, we can provide better treatment.”
