ONDC, envisioned to promote inclusivity and ease of access for both businesses and consumers, adds a crucial dimension to India's Digital Public Infrastructure. Rather than being a standalone platform or app, ONDC operates as an open protocol. This system allows users of any app to discover and buy products or services from any seller on the network.
As part of IndiaStack, ONDC was established as a not-for-profit company in December 2021. This market-led initiative, functioning as a public good, is supported by the Government of India and various industry associations. It disrupts the current market dynamics by fostering interoperability among commercial enterprises, supply chains, and platforms
ONDC empowers users by giving them control over their data and has rapidly expanded its network to 600 cities. With over a lakh sellers already on board, and an addition of 3,000-4,000 sellers each week, ONDC facilitates over one lakh transactions daily.
Its dedication to dismantling barriers and leveling the playing field in the burgeoning e-commerce sector in India has rightly positioned ONDC as the ‘Disruptor of the Year’.
