IBLA 2023 19th Edition: ONDC is the ‘Disruptor of the Year’ for transforming India’s digital commerce

Online shopping has become a cornerstone of the Indian business landscape, and the government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) is revolutionising the digital commerce ecosystem. This innovation has earned it the title of ‘Disruptor of the Year’ at the 19th edition of CNBC-TV18’s India Business Leader Awards (IBLA).

ONDC, envisioned to promote inclusivity and ease of access for both businesses and consumers, adds a crucial dimension to India's Digital Public Infrastructure. Rather than being a standalone platform or app, ONDC operates as an open protocol. This system allows users of any app to discover and buy products or services from any seller on the network.

As part of IndiaStack, ONDC was established as a not-for-profit company in December 2021. This market-led initiative, functioning as a public good, is supported by the Government of India and various industry associations.
