Abhijit Roy, MD & CEO of Berger Paints India, on Tuesday said that the construction chemicals business is looking promising for the company. In an interview to CNBC-TV18, Roy spoke at length about how demand is panning out, how business is doing and their plans for the construction chemicals business.
Speaking about construction chemicals, he said, “It’s an evolving market in India and we will have a fairly good growth as far as waterproofing and construction chemical sector is concerned. It looks promising, and therefore, we are strengthening ourselves in that area.”
However, said Roy, there is a shift towards more premium and luxury categories. “The premium and luxury categories were suffering a bit at the initial stage. So we are seeing a shift in that direction as well and overall the demand is strong,” he said.
On price increase front, he said we will consider decorative paints price hike if inputs increase further. He further said that the growth in auto space is mixed; commercial vehicles growing faster and tractor industry growing better than passenger vehicles.
