Uber on Monday, December 18, unveiled its latest feature — ‘Round Trip’ — for its flagship long-distance service, Intercity. This addition allows passengers to book single- or multi-day return trips for outstation travel while maintaining the same car and driver for the entire duration.
Live in all cities, this new feature provides users with flexibility and convenience for both business and leisure journeys.
Riders can now book outstation round trips lasting up to five days, with the vehicle and driver accompanying them throughout. The enhanced flexibility even allows passengers to add stops during their journey.
To facilitate better journey planning for scheduled outstation travel, Uber has introduced the option to reserve rides up to 90 days in advance. This feature benefits drivers as well, offering them the opportunity to secure higher earnings and plan their schedules ahead of time.
The fare for round trips includes waiting time and overnight lodging fees for multi-day trips, and ensuring drivers are fairly compensated for their time.
Shweta Mantri, Head of New Mobility, expressed excitement about the launch, stating, "This innovative feature caters to a whole new set of travellers who seek extended flexibility and convenience. Outstation travel in taxis has largely been an unorganised market so far, and Intercity round trips change that game entirely with the host safety and tracking features available on all Uber rides. We are excited to redefine the future of long-distance road travel."
In addition to providing flexibility, the new feature eliminates the need to manually book local taxi services for travel, offering the added advantage of tracking the journey through the app, enhancing safety and reliability.
