Titagarh Rail Systems bags Rs 857-crore Gujarat Metro Rail contract for its Surat phase I project

Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (TRSL), formerly known as Titagarh Wagons Ltd, on Tuesday (October 3) said the company has secured a contract with the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (GMRC) to manufacture 72 standard gauge cars.

These metro cars are destined for the first phase of the Surat Metro Rail Project, according to a stock exchange filing.


The contract includes the complete scope of design, manufacture, supply, testing, commissioning, and training for these metro cars. The estimated order value for this project stands at approximately Rs 857 crore.

The execution of this contract is scheduled to commence 76 weeks after its signing, with an anticipated completion timeline of 132 weeks thereafter.

The senior management at TRSL that these state-of-the-art metro cars will be manufactured at the company’s cutting-edge facility in Utarpara, located in the Hooghly district of West Bengal, India.

TRSL has decided to expand its capacities at a capex of about Rs 650 crore in the next couple of years, a large sum of which is already invested and bearing fruit. Titagarh has already received a letter of acceptance for 30 standard gauge cars for phase II of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project, the senior management added.

The Surat Metro Rail Project itself is an ambitious undertaking, comprising two corridors spanning a total of 40.45 km, featuring 38 stations, at an estimated project cost of Rs 12,020 crore.

The length of the first corridor — Sarthana to Dream City line — will be 21.61 km, of which 6.47 km would be underground and the rest elevated. It will have 20 metro stations — Sarthana, Nature Park, Kapodra, Labheshwar chowk area, Central Warehouse, Surat Railway station, Maskati Hospital, Gandhi Baug, Majura Gate, Roopali Canal and Dream City.

Similarly, the Bhesan to Saroli metro corridor, with a proposed length of 18.74 km, would be completely elevated with 18 stations — Bhesan, Ugat Vaarigruh, Palanpur road, LP Savani School, Adajan Gam, Aquarium, Majuragate, Kamela Darwaza, Magob and Saroli.

Shares of Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd ended at Rs 770.65, down by Rs 8.70, or 1.12 percent, on the BSE.
