Saab will become the first defence company to receive approval for 100% foreign direct investment (FDI) from the Indian government for its newly established company Saab FFVO India Pvt. Ltd. The Swedish company will fully own the new manufacturing facility and is looking to begin production in 2025.
The company will employ complex technologies, including sighting technology and advanced carbon fibre winding, to manufacture the shoulder-launched weapon.
The Carl-Gustaf is established as the main shoulder-launched weapon in the Indian Armed Forces and has been deployed in service with the Indian Army since 1976.
Sweden’s State Secretary for Foreign Trade, Håkan Jevrell said Saab’s factory which will be the first fully-owned defence production facility in India, is a testament to the strong bilateral relationship between India and Sweden.
Görgen Johansson, Senior Vice President and Head of Saab’s business area Dynamics said, “I am proud to start constructing our first facility outside Sweden for Carl-Gustaf, a product that has a long history with the Indian Armed Forces. We look forward to starting production of our excellent product, now engineered and made in India.”
