In an exclusive interview with Shereen Bhan, Romal Shetty spoke about Deloitte India’s new big initiative and other key insights:
Deloitte India’s ‘Enterprise Conscious Code’
Romal talked about a groundbreaking initiative by Deloitte called the "Enterprise Conscious Code." This innovative project aims to address the environmental impact of software, acknowledging that 3% of all emissions are caused by software, with projections to rise significantly.
The initiative evaluates digital efficiency, inclusivity, and profitability of software, aligning with the principles of people, planet, and profit. Romal believes that the successful execution of this initiative will not only enhance energy efficiency but also improve the profitability of Indian companies.
Optimism and Ambitious Growth
Romal highlighted the prevailing mood of optimism, especially among Indian companies. The ambitious pursuit of 3x to 4x growth reflected a paradigm shift in economic aspirations. This optimism, Romal noted, extended beyond incremental progress to a transformative vision for the future.
AI and Responsible Innovation
He emphasised the prominent buzz around AI by shedding light on its adoption primarily for productivity gains and cost reduction. However, Romal underscored the need for a deeper integration of AI into innovative practices and transformative business models. He emphasised the importance of responsible and trust-based AI practices, an essential consideration for India's journey in the AI era.
Identifying Competitive Advantages
Romal highlighted that Deloitte identified key sectors where India held a competitive edge, showcasing potential areas for significant growth. The transition of the technology sector from a software service provider to an AI capital emerged as a promising opportunity.
He added that Deloitte focused on electric and renewable energy sectors, advancements in semiconductor technology, and the untapped potential in agriculture, aligning with India's strategic positioning on the global economic stage.
Deloitte’s Commitment to Gender Parity
Romal Shetty highlighted diversity's crucial role in shaping effective business solutions in consulting. He noted that the Deloitte India’s top leadership maintained a proud 33% women representation, signaling a commitment to diversity. Romal advocated a mindset shift to promote women in leadership, endorsing initiatives like sponsorships programs apart from mentoring women leaders.
Deloitte also went a step further and innovated a tech-enabled tool to detect unconscious biases at the workplace. This will help the firm to break stereotypes and change mindsets, ensuring all professionals achieve their full potential.
