The Delhi High Court reprimanded Ashneer Grover for the use of "unparliamentary" language against BharatPe on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
The Delhi HC was hearing a plea by BharatPe that had flagged tweets by Ashneer Grover, which took aim at BharatPe and its leadership.
In May 2023, Delhi HC passed directions restraining Ashneer Grover, the former co-founder and managing director of the fintech company, and BharatPe from using unparliamentary language against each other, on social media.
The counsel for Ashneer Grover expressed an unconditional apology for the tweets cited by BharatPe. His lawyers said there would be no further posts on social media of this nature. It was further submitted that the posts in question had been deleted.
However, the Delhi HC noted that it was "appalled" at the conduct of Ashneer Grover, observing that the posts were in clear violation of HC orders.
Despite the apology, the Delhi HC proceeded to slap costs of ₹2 lakh on Ashneer Grover.
