Maharashtra's COVID-19 cases continue to spike and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has begun carrying out free testing at over 20 centres. This may help diagnostic companies as the BMC sends samples to private labs and pays them for it. A Velumani, Chairman, Managing Director and CEO at Thyrocare Technologies weighs on the situation.
“Some patients come directly to us, some through BMC. So when BMC offers it for free, it makes the common man go for it. That also is good for us. It is supporting. However, overall the positivity in testing patients has gone up from 8 percent to 15 percent. The number of tested patients is more and the number of positivity is also more which is a concern,” he said.
On non-COVID business, Velumani said, “There is a 25 percent increase in the non-COVID business. I would say month-over-month we do see roughly around 20 percent increase in non-COVID business.”
