Interglobe Aviation, the company that owns IndiGo airline, has said that passengers will have to pay ₹ 2,000 if they want to pick any one of the seats in the first row. The steep revision in this seat-selection charge comes after the airlines announced the withdrawal of the fuel surcharge, effective January 04, 2024.
For an A321 aircraft with 222 seats, selecting a window or aisle seat on the front row will cost ₹ 2,000. The middle seat on the same row will cost the passenger ₹ 1,500
All seats on the second and third rows will come at a flat rate of ₹ 400. The charges are the same for an A321 plane that has 232 seats and also for A320 aircraft with 180 seats, according to the airline's website.
As reported by the Hindustan Times, IndiGo designates certain seats as "XL," offering extra legroom or early deplaning privileges for the first-row seats. Prices which ranged from ₹ 150 to ₹ 1,500 have been revised and now range from ₹ 150 to ₹ 2000, an increase of 33% at the upper end.
The seat-selection charges for rows 2 and 3 on the Airbus fleet have decreased from Rs 450 to Rs 400. However, for rows 11 and 14 to 20 on the A320s, the charges for aisle, window, and even middle seats have risen from Rs 250 to Rs 400.

The airline earlier said it had waived the fuel charge on tickets. This comes three months after the airline introduced the levy in the wake of a surge in jet fuel prices. The fuel charge, which was introduced by the airline in early October 2023, has been removed with effect from January 4 this year.
“Comfort is the foremost priority for us. Hence, we offer reservation option for preferred seats to our passengers. We offer advance reservations for preferred seats to our passengers, you may choose a window seat, aisle seat or a seat with extra legroom.
