Budget carrier IndiGo cancelled close to 50 flights in the last three days — 8-10 February — citing disruptions due to the hailstorm that hit the northern part of India on Thursday. However, other airlines were not much affected during the period, Mint reported, citing sources.
New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Goa, Pune, Guwahati, Chennai and Raipur were the cities where IndiGo reported the most disruptions during the weekend, said the paper.
Around 27 IndiGo flights were cancelled in Bengaluru on Saturday and on Sunday due to unavailability of staff, sources with knowledge of the matter told the paper, adding that seven flights were cancelled in Chennai, eight flights were cancelled in Hyderabad, three were cancelled or delayed in Mumbai and three were cancelled from Jaipur in the two days.
"IndiGo has been aggressively increasing capacity, and has been facing crew and pilot shortage for quite sometime now. This has likely caused the disruptions during the past few days as there were no major issues that could have cancelled or delayed so many flights," sources were quoted as saying in the report.
