The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has taken stern action against IndiGo and Mumbai Airport following the circulation of a viral video showing passengers dining on the tarmac at Mumbai Airport.

In response to the concerning incident, MoCA has issued show cause notices to both entities, demanding explanations for their alleged failure to anticipate and address the situation appropriately.
The MoCA has asked IndiGo and Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) to submit their responses by January 16, 2024. Failure to do so within the stipulated timeframe will prompt enforcement actions, including the imposition of financial penalties.
The show cause notice issued to IndiGo specifically cites a violation of Rule 51 of the Aircraft (Security) Rules, 2023, AvSec Order 02/2019, and an order dated 21.09.2021. The airline is accused of failing to adhere to due aviation security procedures concerning Flight No. 6E 2195.

IndiGo shared that it received the show cause notice from MoCA's Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) concerning flight 6E 2195's diversion to Mumbai on January 14.
