India’s domestic air passenger traffic at 51-month low in November

India’s domestic air passenger traffic growth has fallen to a 51-month low in November with airlines carrying only 11.64 million people.

India’s domestic air passenger traffic growth has fallen to a 51-month low in November with airlines carrying only 11.64 million people.

However, the domestic airlines' traffic registered 11.03 percent growth in November as compared with the corresponding month in 2017, according to data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Low-fare carrier IndiGo has maintained its top position in terms of market share, the data showed. The Gurugram-headquartered airline carried 5.06 million passengers during the month, which translates into a market share of 43 percent.
The Naresh Goyal-controlled Jet Airways, including JetLite, came at a distant second with 14.3 percent market share. National carrier Air India clocked 12.2 percent market share during this period.
The figures showed that SpiceJet continued to maintain its pole position in terms of passenger load factor (PLF) by flying its aircrafts 91.1 percent full, followed by GoAir with 87.6 percent and AirAsia India with 86.5 percent.
The 12 operational domestic airlines during the month reported an overall cancellation rate of 0.87 percent, as compared to 1.16 percent in the previous month.
According to the DGCA data, Go Air and Vistara reported the lowest cancellation rate of 0.15 percent during the month, while Air India reported a substantially higher cancellation rate of 2.74 percent.
In terms of operating flights on time, GoAir topped the list by operating 87 percent of its flights on time followed by Vistara at 86.1 percent and IndiGo at 79.2 percent, the data showed.
All domestic carriers put together received 786 complaints in October, which translates into 0.67 complaints per 10,000 passengers carried during the month.
