India approves declaration of Surat airport as international airport
The union cabinet on Friday (December 15) approved the declaration of Gujarat's Surat Airport as an international airport.

"Elevating Surat airport to international status is paramount for enhancing economic growth, attracting foreign investment, and bolstering diplomatic ties. With a surge in passenger traffic and cargo operations, the airport's international designation will provide a crucial impetus for regional development," the official release said.
The cabinet members also gave their nod for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the United States and India to enhance innovation ecosystems.
India's commerce ministry said both partners are working together to strengthen the start-up eco-system in deep tech sectors and promote cooperation in iCET. The iCET stands for Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies.
