Several infants and an elderly passenger on-board an Air Mauritius flight from Mumbai experienced breathing issues due to a faulty air-conditioning system. The Mauritius-bound flight MK749, scheduled to depart at 4:30 am, faced delays due to an engine problem, causing misery to passengers.
According to a passenger, who spoke to ANI, the situation inside the aircraft became increasingly distressing as fliers, who had boarded around 3:45 am, were not allowed to disembark. This prolonged confinement, coupled with the lack of proper air circulation, led to breathing difficulties, particularly for the infants and elderly onboard.
Efforts to address the issue with airport authorities and Air Mauritius reportedly yielded no immediate resolution, leaving passengers frustrated and anxious about the deteriorating conditions inside the aircraft. The 78-year-old passenger, identified as Banudutt Boolauky, was particularly affected, struggling with breathing in what was a suffocating environment.

In response to the situation, the flight was finally cancelled and passengers were accommodated on alternative flights. The exact details of the airline’s response and the measures taken to ensure the well-being of passengers remain pending, as Air Mauritius has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
Another flight emergency unfolded when multiple passengers on an American Airlines flight intervened to restrain an individual attempting to open one of the emergency exits. The incident occurred shortly after take-off, prompting the plane to return to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for an unscheduled landing, according to the report by News18.
According to an American Airlines spokesperson, Flight 1219 bound for Chicago was forced to return to Albuquerque shortly after take-off due to a disturbance in the cabin involving a disruptive customer. The spokesperson confirmed that the flight landed safely and that local law enforcement met the aircraft upon arrival.
This incident is part of a concerning trend of unruly passenger behaviour on flights, which has put many travellers on the edge. This year, flight crews have reported more than 250 disruptive passenger incidents to the FAA. This marks a significant increase from the nearly 6,000 incidents reported in 2021, as air travel resumed following the decline during the Covid-19 pandemic.
