A server malfunction caused significant disruptions to operations at the Chennai airport's International Departure section on October 4, Wednesday. Approximately 1,500 passengers were affected due to the disruptions in international flights. According to some reports, as many as nine outbound services were affected.
The technical problem first became apparent around 1.30 am and was resolved by 6 am, as reported by airport authorities.
Authorities from Chennai Airport told CNBC-TV18 that technical issues happened due to a network outage. A total of 18 flights were impacted as during the outage airlines had to adopt manual check in process.
Further, the outage happened due to fluctuations in the Firewall. IT team of Chennai Airport took necessary measures and has resolved the issue.
Additionally, the authorities added that event logs are being analysed to identify the root cause of the incidents.
Users also posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) about their discomfort.

The issue primarily impacted international departures, leading to difficulties in printing boarding passes and handling baggage.
As a result of this disruption, international flights to various destinations, including Colombo, Dubai, and Bangkok, experienced delays.
Another user also, meanwhile, complained about a delay from Chennai for an Air India flight for over two hours.
