Aviation entrant FLY91 begins building fleet, leases two aircraft
Upcoming regional airline FLY91 said it has leased its first two ATR 72-600 aircraft from Dubai Aerospace Enterprise. The Goa-based carrier founded by erstwhile Kingfisher Airlines executive Manoj Chacko, is a regional airline that plans to fly short haul flights that are within the radius of 45-90 minutes such as Kolhapur, Sholapur, Hubli, Latur, Mysore.

ATR 72 is a turboprop-powered plane having the capacity to accommodate a maximum of 78 passengers.
"India's aviation sector is expanding at an unprecedented rate, and FLY91 is proud to be part of this growth story. We are firmly committed to the country's development through last mile air connectivity, that aim to serve the unserved & under-served cities in India," said Manoj Chacko, MD & CEO of FLY91.
In an interview with CNBC-TV18 in April 2023, Chacko had said airline will begin commercial operations by October.
The airline claims to be well-capitalized and on track to secure its Air Operator Permit for starting commercial operations shortly.
FLY91 will now have to demonstrate its capability to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation for seamless operations to obtain the Air Operator's Certificate.
The team seems to have a clear vision to sustain the business in a highly competitive and low margin market.
"We will definitely fly one state to another but are we going to go into an Airbus or Boeing? The answer is No," Chacko had told CNBC-TV18 in April.
FLY91 said it is committed to enhance last mile air connectivity and will connect over 50 cities across India in the next five years and will induct 30 aircraft into its fleet which will be based at multiple hubs across the country.
