Akasa Air signs 15-year agreement with Canadian company for pilot training
Just days before commencing international operations, Akasa Air has signed a 15-year long-term agreement with Canadian Aviation Electronics (CAE) to train its pilots. CAE will provide Boeing 737MAX pilot training to Akasa pilots at CAE’s facilities in India. In-class training facilities, instructors, and the latest generation full-flight simulators will be taken care of by CAE. The Canadian company has been training Akasa Air pilots since 2022.

Vinay Dube, Founder and CEO of Akasa Air, said, “As we receive a substantial influx of aircraft in the coming decade, this partnership will provide us access to the world’s best training facilities for the next 15 years. This will help in building a team of highly experienced and skilled pilots as we continue our commitment to becoming one of the world’s safest airlines.”
Nick Leontidis, CAE’s Group President, Civil Aviation, said, “This long-term agreement is a testament to the quality of the pilot training we deliver and the strong relationship we have built with Akasa in a relatively short time. In the fast-growing Indian aviation sector, CAE has the infrastructure and resources to support the expansion of airline partners in the region.”
CAE currently operates 13 simulators in three commercial aviation training centres in India. In January this year, CAE extended its partnership with Indian low-cost carrier IndiGo to train cadet pilots.
Last year, the company also signed a multi-year contract with Air India to provide advanced Crew Management and Operations Control solutions to its group airlines. In 2023, CAE became a Boeing Authorised Training Provider for Boeing’s Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) curriculum in India.
Akasa Air will start its international operations with flights to Doha from Mumbai from March 28. The airline also has won bilateral rights for Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. The airline, which currently has a fleet size of 23 Boeing MAX aircraft, earlier this year placed an order of 150 new MAX aircraft with Boeing. Akasa has over 223 aircraft set to be delivered until late 2030.
