Air India gets show cause notice from civil aviation body for violating air travel rules

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a show cause notice to Air India, seeking an explanation for the airline's failure to comply with the Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR).

The DGCA initiated comprehensive inspections of scheduled domestic airlines at major airports across the country, with the primary aim of ensuring the safety and well-being of fliers. During these inspections, it came to light that Air India was not adhering to the prescribed regulations outlined in the CAR.

The CAR, specifically Section-3, enacted in 2010, details the "facilities to be provided to passengers by airlines due to denied boarding, cancellation of flights, and delays in flights."

These regulations are put in place to guarantee the welfare and protection of air travellers in the event of flight disruptions, including denied boardings, flight cancellations, and delays.

It was discovered that Air India's practices were not in line with the stipulations of CAR Section-3, raising concerns about the airline's commitment to passenger welfare.

The national carrier's non-compliance with these critical regulations has raised concerns regarding passenger welfare.

This is not the first time that Air India has faced scrutiny for non-compliance with aviation regulations. Last year, the airline was fined ₹10,00,000 for similar violations.

The show cause notice places Air India in the hot seat, requiring the airline to provide a comprehensive response regarding its failure to adhere to the CAR's provisions. Air India must also outline the corrective measures it plans to take to ensure compliance with the regulations in question.
