Hero MotoCorp's Surge has unveiled a unique three-wheeler electric vehicle, which can be converted into an electric two-wheeler scooter in a few minutes. Touted as the world's 'first-class convertible vehicle', Surge S32 was showcased at Hero World 2024 recently.

According to an official release, the product --conceptualised and built in India -- has 40 patents to its name and has seamless technology fluidly transitions between a two-wheeler and a three-wheeler in mere seconds.
It is said to have been produced for self-employed people, providing the customer the flexibility of both -- electric rickshaw as well as an electric scooter -- within the same vehicle.
Sharing a video of Surge S32 on social media site X, RPG Enterprises Chairman Harsh Goenka wrote, "#Hero has unveiled a revolutionary three-wheeler that transforms into a two-wheeler, showcasing the innovative spirit and ingenuity of Indian engineering. It's amazing to witness such groundbreaking advancements. #Innovation #MakeInIndia"
What is Surge S32?
The two-in-one convertible electric vehicle has been designed for self-employed individuals.
The Surge S32 initially looks like a typical 3W electric rickshaw and has a front passenger compartment with standard features including wipers, headlights, turn signals, and a windscreen. It will possibly have soft doors with zippers for weather protection.
With a single button press, the front windshield part lifts vertically to show the electric scooter inside. The cabin of the 3W vehicle changes and a spring-loaded double-stand mechanism is deployed. Once freed from the vehicle's cabin, the electric scooter boasts its LED headlights, turn signals, speedometer, and switchgear.
The battery and power of Surge S32 have been intelligently divided between the 2W scooter and the 3W vehicle. Surge S32 (3W) has a 10 kW (13.4 bhp) engine and is fitted with an 11kWh battery. On the other hand, the scooter (2W) is equipped with a 3 kW (4 bhp) engine and has a 3.5 kWh battery.
The top speed for the 3W vehicle is 50 km/h and 60 km/h for the scooter.
