Homegrown automobile manufacturer Tata Motors, in collaboration with Tata Africa Holdings Limited, has launched the Ultra T.9 and Ultra T.14 trucks in South Africa.
The company claims that its Ultra trucks feature a walk-through cabin, power steering, a dashboard-mounted gear lever, a booster-assisted clutch, and a mechanically suspended seat for safe and fatigue-free driving.
Anurag Mehrotra, Head of International Business at Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, in a company statement, said, “The launch of the latest Ultra range in South Africa marks a new landmark in freight transportation in the country. Built on the internationally recognised Ultra platform, these trucks are engineered to cater to a diverse set of applications, deliver higher performance, vehicle utilisation, uptime and more revenues.”
Tata Motors' Ultra smart trucks are powered by the company's turbocharged diesel engines. The Ultra T.9 and Ultra T.14 are equipped with 3.3L and 5.0L engines respectively. The trucks also come with a parabolic suspension for rugged and uninterrupted operations and are equipped with Tata Motors’ flagship connected vehicle system, Fleet Edge, for efficient fleet management.

Mehrotra further added, “Our products and services have been designed keeping the specific requirements of the South African fleet operators who seek both, power and fuel efficiency. It also addresses the need for higher safety and comfort for the drivers. The new range has been extensively tested in South Africa to ensure it delivers to the expectations of our customers.”

In addition to the vehicles themselves, Tata Motors is also said to provide a comprehensive suite of vehicle lifecycle management solutions. These include Annual Maintenance Contracts, Extended Warranty, Fleet Management Services, and a range of value-added services.
