Over the next 12-18 months, Tata Motors aims to open 2-3 stores every month in cities where EVs have reached a good size or have good potential. Shailesh Chandra, MD of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., in an interview with CNBC-TV 18, said that the decision to choose Gurgaon for the first showroom was due to the high pollution levels in the region.
Chandra, while commenting at the inauguration of the new showrooms, said, “With insights gathered from over 1 Lakh Tata EV customers, we understand that EV consumers seek a different kind of customer experience… The new flagship showrooms are the first physical manifestation of this brand philosophy, and we have mapped the customer journey accordingly… These showrooms are not just about retailing EVs but they become TATA.ev community centres in Gurugram.”
Chandra added that the company embarked on its EV journey five years ago amidst uncertainty and a lack of clarity on charging infrastructure. However, the situation has since changed, with the company now selling around 5,000-6,000 a month, indicating the rapid acceptance of new technology in India.
The entire Tata ecosystem has contributed to streamlining the company’s EV plans, reveals Tata Motors MD. Currently, 15% of the company’s volumes and 20% of its revenue come from the EV business. TPEM claims to have a market share of over 71% in the 4-wheeler EV segment and has recently crossed the milestone of selling 1 lakh Tata EVs.
Tata Motors currently offers three electric cars – the Nexon EV, the Tiago EV, and the Tigor EV. The company plans to expand its electric portfolio in the upcoming year with the much-awaited Curvv EV, Punch EV, Harrier EV, Safari EV, and Sierra EV.
