Mahindra & Mahindra

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd's total automotive dispatches rose 15% on year to 73,944 vehicles in January, according to an exchange filing. The automaker's wholesale volumes were driven by strong growth in utility vehicle sales and an uptick in commercial vehicle sales.
The company sold 43,068 utility vehicles in India in January, accounting entirely for passenger vehicle sales for the month. In the year-ago period, the company had sold 32,915 utility vehicles and 125 cars and vans.
On the commercial vehicle front, the automaker sold 23,481 units in India in January, compared to 21,724 units in the year-ago period. In comparison, its three-wheeler volumes fell 14% on year to 5,649 units.
Compared to the 15% growth in total automotive sales in India in January, the company's exports fell 42% on year to 1,746 units. It dispatched 798 utility vehicles to international markets during the month.
In the farm equipment segment, M&M's sales fell 17% on year to 23,948 tractors on account of a decline in both domestic and international sales. Its India dispatches declined 17% on year to 22,972 units, and exports slumped 25% to 976 units.
In January, "retail momentum slowed down on account of the tapering of agricultural activities," said Hemant Sikka, president of farm equipment sector, Mahindra & Mahindra. "Rabi crop output is expected to be good with prevailing cold conditions helping the key crop of wheat. The government announcement of a good estimate of horticultural production, and continued support to boost the rural economy will aid positive sentiments and support tractor demand in the coming months."

Escorts Kubota

The company reported total tractor sales down 7% at 6,185 units as against 6,649 units on a year-on-year basis.
Domestic tractor sales in January this year were at 5,817 tractors as against 6,235 tractors sold in January 2023. The delay in Rabi sowing and lower water reservoir levels especially in Central and Southern regions, has negatively impacted rural sentiments and affected tractor sales in the current month.
However, with overall improved Rabi sowing and as we move towards harvest season, we anticipate demand momentum to improve in the upcoming months.
Export tractor sales in January 2024 were at 368 compared to 414 tractors sold in January 2023.
