Domestic passenger vehicle sales rise 10.8% to over 3.7 lakh units in February: SIAM

Domestic passenger vehicle sales in February 2024 increased 10.8% to 3,70,786 units, up from 3,34,790 units in the year-ago period, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

The total production of passenger vehicles, three-wheelers, two-wheelers, and quadricycles in February 2024 stood at 22,94,411 units.

Last month, three-wheeler sales rose 8.3% year-on-year (YoY) to 54,584 units, against 50,382 units in February 2023. Two-wheeler sales increased 34.6% to 15,20,761 units in comparison to 11,29,661 units in the year-ago period.

The passenger vehicles do not include BMW, Mercedes, JLR and Volvo Auto, as data is not available for these companies. Tata Motors’ domestic sales figures are included in this document, the release said.

President of SIAM, Vinod Aggarwal, said, “Passenger vehicles, two-wheelers, and three-wheelers have posted growth in February 2024 compared to the previous year, while commercial vehicles have witnessed a slight de-growth. The overall robust GDP growth of the country in Q3 of 2023-24 has helped the auto sector.”

Aggarwal added, “The Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 held in February 2024, graced by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, has also created a strong positive sentiment for the consumers and therefore the industry expects the growth momentum to continue.”

Rajesh Menon, Director General, SIAM, said, “Passenger vehicles again reported the highest ever sales in February, posting sales of 3.7 lakh units with a growth of 10.8% compared to February 2023.”
