BMW X5 gets a facelift with new design, features and mild-hybrid tech
BMW India has introduced the updated version of its luxury SUV, the X5, with a starting price of Rs 93.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The X5 facelift comes with cosmetic changes, new features and mild-hybrid technology for both petrol and diesel engines. The SUV will be available in two trims: xLine and M Sport.

Design
The X5 facelift gets a new front bumper with a larger air intake and an optional illuminated grille that lights up when the car is unlocked or locked. The headlights are slimmer and feature a new LED signature. The side profile remains largely unchanged, except for the new 21-inch alloy wheels. The rear end gets redesigned tail lights with a three-dimensional effect.
Features
The interior of the X5 facelift gets a major upgrade with a new twin-screen panel that consists of a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The infotainment system runs on BMW's latest iDrive 8 operating system, which offers improved connectivity and personalisation options. The gear selector is now a glass toggle switch, similar to other BMW models. The SUV also gets a Harmon Kardon sound system, ambient lighting and leather upholstery.
The xLine trims offer sports seats with a heating function, while the M Sport trims offer comfortable seats with ventilation. The SUV also comes with a host of driver assistance systems, such as cruise control, attentiveness assist, parking assist, reverse assist, remote parking and drive recording. Other safety features include six airbags, dynamic stability control and more.
Powertrain
The X5 facelift is powered by two engine options: a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder petrol engine and a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder diesel engine. Both engines are equipped with a 48V mild-hybrid system that adds 12hp and 200Nm of torque to the output. The petrol engine produces 381hp and 520Nm of torque, while the diesel engine produces 286hp and 650Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and an all-wheel-drive system.
The petrol-powered X5 facelift can accelerate from 0-100kph in 5.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 250kph, while the diesel-powered X5 facelift can do the same in 6.1 seconds and 233kph, respectively.
 Price and rivals
The X5 facelift has four variants to choose from: two petrol and two diesel. The petrol variants are the Drive 40i xLine and the Drive 40i M Sport, priced at Rs 93.90 lakh and Rs 1.05 crore, respectively.
