Auto slowdown: Sales decline 12% in November after brief festive season respite

After months of cutting production in lieu of the falling demand, the passenger vehicle production was up 4 percent in November. However, the M&HCV segment saw 45 percent dip in production.

Auto slowdown: Sales decline 12% in November after brief festive season respite
After a brief festive season respite in October, domestic automobile sales dropped 12 percent in November year-on-year, according to the latest data released by the Society of Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) on Tuesday.

The sector's total sales declined to 1,792,415 units in November from 2,038,007 units sold during the corresponding month of the previous year.
Segment wise, the off-take of passenger vehicle sales during the month under review slipped by 0.84 per cent to 263,773 units this November on a year-on-year basis.
The medium and heavy vehicle (M&HCV) sales bore the brunt of the sales decline, dropping 32.8 percent YoY.
Meanwhile, after months of cutting production in lieu of the falling demand, the passenger vehicle production was up 4 percent in November. However, the M&HCV segment saw 45 percent dip in production.
Exports came as a silver lining for passenger vehicles with a 20 percent rise. The overall exports was up 17.6 percent.
