Mahindra's tractor sales rise 28% in January 2023

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd tractor sales increased 28 per cent at 28,926 units in January 2023, compared to 22,682 units sold in the year-ago period.

The company also revealed that its domestic sales stood at 27,626 units in January, up 31 percent against 21,162 units sold in the same month last year. 

Hemant Sikka, President of the Farm Equipment Sector at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, in a statement, said, "We are off to a good start to the year with a promising Rabi crop outlook as sowing acreage for key crops of wheat, pulses and oil seeds have already surpassed previous year levels, supported by conducive soil and weather conditions."

Suzuki Motorcycle India's sales up 21.2% in January 2023 

Suzuki Motorcycle India reported that its sales grew 21.2 percent in January 2023 at 84,966 units.

The Japanese brand sold 70,092 units in the same month last year.

The company also stated that its domestic dispatches stood at 66,209 units and exports were at 18,757 units in the last month.

Royal Enfield reports 27% growth in January sales 

Royal Enfield, the global leader in middleweight motorcycles, reported that its total sales increased 27 percent to 74,746 units in January 2023 from 58,838 units sold during the same month last year.

Eicher Motors-owned motorcycles manufacturer's sales of bikes with engine capacity up to 350cc jumped 38 percent to 68,183 units, while sales of motorcycle models with engine capacity over 350cc dropped 29 percent to 6,563 units in January 2023 over January last year.

The homegrown company's international business recorded sales of 7,044 units in January 2023, down 23 percent compared to 9,112 units in the same month last year.

Eicher Motors CV sales jump 32% in January 2023

Eicher Motors commercial vehicles (CVs) arm VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV) sold 7,181 vehicles in January 2023, a 32.1 percent increase over the 5,434 units sold in January last year.

However, the company's CV sales dropped from 7,221 units sold in December 2022. Its domestic sales increased 50.1 percent to 6,791 units in January 2023, while total exports decreased by 74.9 percent to 201 units in January 2022.

Volvo truck and bus sales increased 73.4 percent to 189 units in January 2023, compared to 109 units in same month last year.

Volvo Cars gearing up for electric blitz

Swedish carmaker Volvo is gearing up to convert all its mainstay models – three sports utility models (SUVs) and two sedans – into EVs. The company also plans to introduce a luxury electric van aimed at boosting sales in Asia, reported Reuters.

Ashok Leyand shares up 5% after strong Q3 earnings

On Thursday, shares of Hinduja group flagship Ashok Leyand climbed 5 per cent after the company reported a multi-fold jump in its profit after tax for the third quarter that ended December 2022.

Ashok Leyand's stock climbed 5 percent to Rs 155.10 on the BSE. At the NSE, it advanced 4.94 percent to Rs 155. The company also revealed that its domestic sales jumped 27 percent from 12,709 vehicles in January 2022 to 16,198 units during the last month.

The company reported a multi-fold jump in its profit after tax at Rs 361 crore for the third quarter ended December, aided by robust sales.

Honda cars see sales drop to 7,821 units in January 2023

Honda Cars India reported that its domestic sales dropped 25 percent to 7,821 units in January 2023, compared to 10,427 units in the year-ago period.

The company's vehicle exports also declined 17 per cent at 1,434 units in the reporting month as against 1,722 units last year.

Yuichi Murata, Director of marketing and sales at Honda Cars India Ltd, in a statement, said, "January 2023 volumes were in line with our expectations, as we are focusing on seamless transition of our line-up to the upcoming new emission norms under RDE regime."

Ashok Leyland's domestic sales up 27%  

Ashok Leyland's domestic sales jumped 27 percent from 12,709 vehicles in January 2022 to 16,198 units during the last month. 

The company's sales figures, after including exports, grew 23 percent from 17,200 units sold in January 2023, compared to 13,939 units in the same month last year.

Hyundai India posts 16% rise in sales

South Korean automaker Hyundai registered a 16.6 percent increase in vehicle sales in the Indian market. The company reported that it retailed 62,276 units in January 2023, compared to 53,427 units in the year-ago period.

Hyundai India also stated that its exports grew 29.4 percent to 12,170 units from 9,405 units in the same month last year. 

Tarun Garg, Chief Operating Officer of Hyundai Motor India, in a statement, said, "We have begun CY2023 on a high note recording double-digit growth in January. The SUVs -- Tucson, Creta, Venue, Alcazar and Kona -- have maintained strong sales momentum in their respective segments, clocking 27,532 units in January."

Mahindra sales rise 37%

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) Ltd reported a 37 percent rise in vehicle sales at 64,335 units in January. The company registered sales of 46,808 units in January last year.

Veejay Nakra, President of automotive division at M&M Ltd, in a statemnt, said, "Our utility vehicles saw a growth of 66 per cent and we saw an overall growth of 37 per cent. We continue to keep a close watch on the dynamic supply chain situation."

In terms of passenger vehicles sale, Mahindra posted a growth of 65 percent at 33,040 units during the last month compared to 19,646 units in January 2022. Its exports increased 5 percent at 3,009 units in January from 2,865 vehicles shipped out in the year-ago period.
