Auto booking app Namma Yatri now available in Chennai, plans adding 1 lakh drivers in 6 months

As of now, the Namma Yatri app serves over 2 lakh drivers and 40 lakh customers, facilitating more than 2.5 crore trips. According to the company statement, the app has enabled drivers to earn over ₹360 crore without any commission.

Auto booking app Namma Yatri now available in Chennai, plans adding 1 lakh drivers in 6 months
Homegrown auto booking app, Namma Yatri, was unveiled today in Chennai. Transport and Road Safety Commissioner A Shanmuga Sundaram launched the app in the capital of Tamil Nadu.

This ride-hailing app, part of the ONDC Network, is the brainchild of graduates from Anna University and aims to empower auto drivers with higher earnings and autonomy, while also providing affordable and convenient transportation for the users.
Sundaram, during the unveiling of the app, praised the Namma Yatri team for their work in developing a model that connects drivers directly to customers. The event also celebrated the top Namma Yatri Stars, the auto drivers.
Namma Yatri plans to add 1 lakh drivers in the next 6 months and aims to deepen its integration with Chennai’s transportation fabric and expand to other cities in Tamil Nadu.
The Namma Yatri app is further customised for Chennai, with the driver app available in Tamil and an enhanced user booking experience to prominent locations in the city.
T Koshy, MD & CEO of ONDC, said, “Namma Yatri on ONDC network exemplifies the power of open networks in transforming urban mobility. It will facilitate more efficient, inclusive and sustainable transportation.”
Vimal Kumar, CEO of Juspay and alumnus of Anna University, added, “Its technology is open (Open Source), it has published its data in the open and has joined the Open Network for Digital Commerce initiative. We’re very happy to bring it to Chennai and are looking forward to actively collaborating with the local ecosystem to make this vision work!”
As of now, the Namma Yatri app serves over 2 lakh drivers and 40 lakh customers, facilitating more than 2.5 crore trips. According to the company statement, the app has enabled drivers to earn over ₹360 crore without any commission. The app has a rating of 4.8+ and over 50 lakh downloads.
