Nitin Gadkari says centre targets to build 40 km of roads a day by end of March 2019

The government aims to build 40 kilometers of roads per day by end of March 2019, according to road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari.

Speaking from the sidelines of JP Morgan India Investor Summit, Gadkari said in the last four years, government has constructed 28,531 km and awarded 51,073 kilometers.

For the Sagarmal project, government will start awarding projects by end of this year, Gadkari said.

"The first is Delhi-Eastern bypass and we have completed. We have also completed the first package of Delhi-Meerut express highway, a 14-lane road and we will complete the Delhi-Meerut highway by next March. At the same time, we are going to make new expressway between Delhi to Mumbai," he added.

With regards o the permit requirements of electric vehicles, Gadkari said, "Already, we have taken a decision. Bus, scooter, taxi and auto rickshaw on electric and bio-fuel, they will be exempted from permit raj."
