The central government is learnt to be reviewing the equity-related tax rate prevailing in the country. The Department of Economic Affairs and the revenue department have held meetings with the PMO on the issue.
The government may look for one tax rate rather than multiple rates on equity products. The current rate of long-term capital gains, STT and abolition of dividend distribution tax are also under discussion.
The final decision on the timing of the announcement is expected to be taken by the PM.
