Kia Sorento shares the same platform as the erstwhile Hyundai Santa Fe and therefore its natural rivals are cars like Toyota Fortuner, the Ford Endeavour and the Skoda Kodiaq.

Like the Kodiaq the Sorento too is based on a monocoque construction which makes it easier to drive than the bulkier body-on-frame sport utility vehicles (SUVs).
